My Recent Trip to Germany

A couple months ago, I took a trip to Germany. I have been there when I was a kid but I’ve had the desire to return ever since. The past two years in my life have been fairly busy so I haven’t had the chance to travel much, so it was nice to resume the habit by going to Germany.

I arrived in Germany on September 1st and landed in Frankfurt. Frankfurt was oddly just how I remembered it, but I was many years older of course! I remembered some of the same buildings and the general feel of the town. I have a cousin that lives in Stuttgart so he picked me up and was kind enough to house me for a couple of weeks.

The first couple days I just stayed close to Stuttgart. We did a lot of walking around the town to see some of the historical buildings. My cousin had a friend that worked in the military base there so he brought us in to give us a little tour of where he worked, and talked to us a bit about the history of the base.

After the first couple of days, we took a trip to Garmisch. The mountains were just outstanding with their towering peaks. We drove around a lot, took a lot of photos, and then somehow found ourselves in the Austrian alps. I hear the alps are just gorgeous when it snows but we were just a bit before the first snowfall. I’d love to return in winter.

After our trip to Garmisch, we jolted our way up to Amsterdam. I have never been to Amsterdam but it was fun to see it. We were not there as long as I would have liked as our trip had to be cut short do to a small emergency, but don’t worry Amsterdam, I will be back!

Some of the sights I got to see were the Neuschwanstein Castle. People call this the Cinderella castle. We went on the guided tour and it was the most fairy-tale like building I have ever been in. It was a bit of a hike up to the castle but worth every minute of it.

I ended the trip by visiting the Dachau concentration camp. We took a guided tour through there as well and my, that was an eye opener. I have studied this period of time in the past and it was just heartbreaking to see it in person. Maybe not the best note to end the trip on but happy I went, nonetheless.

I will write more in upcoming posts but Germany, it has been great! Pictures to Post soon.
